These are the items we picked up for ourselves at Toy Tokyo, though we got a few items on the trip for the store too! Come check out what's new and see our wicked tans (burns) we got from hanging out on the beach instead of running around the city!
...and all we got were these lousy awesome Be@rbricks and vinyl monsters! We got to do some hunting in the city including a very hectic trip to Toys R Us Times Square and Toy Tokyo.

That's right, we're back! The camera was beyond repair but they sent us a gift card for the full amount and we went that day to replace it. Here's the ironic part now, we have a camera and can take tons o' pictures, but after a extensive search (looked in one box in the hall closet) I can't seem to find the Goomba Vinyl figure anywhere. It's been packed up since I changed offices and brought a bunch of toys home. So we did the only thing the only thing we could think of, we stole pictures. That's right! But we also watermarked the images with the logo of the store that these were taken from, and we're going to link to the store's site as many times as we can in this posting. So head on over to Rotofugi.com, they can't find their Goomba Vinyl right now either, but there's a huge selection of vinyl on their site to choose from. Our Goomba came to us about a little over a year ago after our friend, Sean came back from his home town of Ann Arbor bearing gifts. The vinyl quality is some of the best I've ever seen - I'm guessing Nintendo doesn't skimp when it comes to things like this. He stands about 6 inches tall and though he lacks articulation, he has a very good sculpt giving him a powerful presence that makes displaying him in any spot a focal point once he's there. I really like that the fact that the plastic that makes up his eyebrows extend from the main body as separate pieces. There was a lot of attention to detail with this figure and with such a basic design, it's a testament to the sculptor's work. I got all that from an eyebrow. So when I actually locate this guy, he's definitely going up for display again. Hey. This is Liz. I was trying to fall asleep on the couch when I had one final urge to roll over and check my myspace. Lo and behold! An unfinished blog posting! Don't mind if I do. Although Sam uses the terms "our" and "us" to describe this toy we "share," I have yet to spend more than five minutes with this Goomba. He kept Sam company at work everyday. Out of jealousy of the time they shared day after day, I gave the Goomba to a friend's dog and tattooed a few of him on my arm to remind Sam what I am capable of. Goodnight.
For our first review, we've chosen the 400% Kill Bill Be@rbrick by Medicom. This piece was originally sold in Japan in 2004 at the WF toy show. The official product number given by Medicom is 000KB400, and was also available in a blood splattered version. Liz gave me this for X-mas in 2005, along with a power drill... a pretty good year if you ask me. I really like this Be@rbrick, and all Be@rbricks for that matter. I don't however, enjoy having to type the "@" symbol in the middle of a word. But that can just be expanded upon on gripedejour.com. Liz has collected Be@rbricks since series 3 I believe, something picked up by her and our old roommate Matt. I love to feed into the collection any chance I get, though I'm not too into the whole blind box thing - I like to pick them up when I think about it from the comic shop or wherever for her. So getting one myself was a nice surprise. The figure displays great and we keep it on a shelf with it's box, just on the off chance that someone would have trouble placing the yellow jumpsuit motif - or mistakenly call it a Bruce Lee figure. ;) Though it's not displayed with our other Be@rbricks, you can just imagine the fear that they all feel seeing this big guy (or girl mind you) leering at them from across the room. It's from the 400% series of Be@rbricks, which means it's 4 times the size of a regular Be@rbrick, those being from the 100% series. I know that there are larger Be@rbricks than the 400% series, but I believe for normal retail this is as large as they get. The last picture in the set is of our cat, Shadow laughing at something ridiculous that this thing said when I first got it. I don't speak Japanese so I have no clue what it was. I'm sure it had something to do with how dirty our house was. For those of you interested in this figure you can check eBay, it's usually on there. If you're looking for a sword that fits with him we used one from a 12" Storm Shadow figure from the 90s. Liz - I know I said that Liz would (and will) be commenting on these, but she's sleeping right now so she'll have to catch up on this one. She did take the photos though. Must have been tiring. |
